Musée des Beaux Arts
The Musée des Beaux Arts is a fine Art Museum operated by the municipality of Bordeaux.
The museum has a large collection of about 2.300 French and Dutch paintings
going from the 15th to the 20th century.
There are also 666 sculptures and 3.328 drawings
The collection goes back to
1801
when Jean Antoine Chaptal, at the time French Minister of Interior
decided to remove a number of paintings from the Louvre to de Bordeaux and 14 other French cities.
The paintings were first exposed in the Bordeaux Townhall
before the con,struction of the current building started in
1875.
