Ernest Cognacq (1839 - 1928)
came to Paris at age 15 working for different stores.
1870, Cognacq opens a little shop called "La Samaritaine"
rented for 45 francs à day from a cafe rue de la Monnaie.
Four large Art nouveau style department stores open on rue de Rivoli from 1905 to 1910.
2001 La Samaritaine was bought by LVHM
2020 / 2021 reopening sheduled as a Luxury Department store
